Boise, ID - Each year, elected officials have the honor of nominating deserving young women and men to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy. Academy Day, hosted by the Idaho Congressional Delegation, is an annual event held to provide students, parents and counselors the opportunity to learn more about each Academy and receive information on how to obtain a congressional nomination.
This year, Academy Day will be held in Boise and Post Falls on October 6, and in Idaho Falls on October 13. Officials from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York will be there to provide information about each service academy. A Congressional nomination is not needed to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, but representatives have been invited to share information about this school as well.
At the Boise event, State Senator Mitch Toryanksi will appear as a special keynote speaker. Senator Toryanksi, a West Point graduate, represents the residents of southeast Ada County in the Idaho State Legislature, and served more than 30 years in the U.S. Military. He is a veteran of Operation Restore Democracy and Operation Provide Hope, and has commanded servicemen and women at every rank from lieutenant to colonel.
October 6
In Boise, Academy Day will be held at Gowen Field, Building 600 Auditorium, 4040 West Guard Street. The event will take place from 1:30-3:30 PM/MST.
In the Coeur d’Alene area, Academy Day will be held in Post Falls at the Post Falls National Guard Armory, 5453 East Seltice Way. This event will also take place between 1:30-3:30 PM/PST.
October 13
In Idaho Falls, Academy Day will be held at the Idaho National Guard Armory, 575 West 21st Street, from 1:30-3:30 PM/MST.
At each event, Congressional staff, recruiters, academy liaisons, and cadets and midshipmen from Idaho will be available to speak with students, parents and school officials. These events are not only a great resource for sharing information about the Congressional nomination process, but also for learning about academy life and the lifelong benefits that attending a military service academy can bring.
