Washington, DC— U.S. Senator Jim Risch has selected three college students to serve as spring interns in his Washington, D.C., office. The interns have the opportunity to learn first-hand about public service and the U.S. Senate while assisting with constituent services and legislative research.

“Interning in the U.S. Senate is an excellent way to learn about the legislative branch of government and to see where much of our nation’s early history took place,” said Risch. “This group of interns is well qualified and is serving Idaho well.”

The interns are:

• Barry Newell, of Emmett, is a graduate of Boise State University with a degree in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations. Barry has served in the Idaho Army National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst. He is the son of Brad and Marilyn Newell.
• Matt Hurst, of Declo, is currently a junior at Brigham Young University where he is earning a degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Management. Matt works on his family farm and as a dining services employee at BYU. He is also a classical musician. Matt is the son of Wayne and Sherrie Hurst.
• Chelsi Murray, of Houlton, Maine, is currently a senior at Liberty University where she is earning a degree in International Relations with emphasis on Strategic Intelligence and Government. At Liberty University, Chelsi serves on the Student Government Association and as the President of the Strategic Intelligence Society. She is also skilled in martial arts. Chelsi is the daughter of Leisha Murray.
