Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Risch released the following statement after he voted once again for cloture to disapprove of President Obama’s nuclear agreement with Iran:

“Senate Democrats have successfully mounted a filibuster to protect President Obama from having to face the reality of this disastrously imperfect agreement. A majority of Americans know this is a very bad deal. The Iranians will now have the resources they desire to fund terrorism, attack Israel, and foster instability across the Middle East, while the president and his administration stand by and call this a good deal.

“The deal gives Iran a path forward, permission, and a timetable to develop and industrialize its nuclear industry so it can build a nuclear weapon. The agreement also lifts the conventional arms embargo on Iran and permits them to develop, build, and test an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States.

“This agreement is indefensible, but President Obama will not have to defend it. In addition, even with all the pressure we could assert the administration left behind the American prisoners being held in Iran, including Idahoan Pastor Saeed Abedini.”

Cloture failed with a partisan vote of 56-42, meaning that the disapproval failed.
