WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) announced the selection of five interns to serve in his Washington, D.C., Boise, and Idaho Falls Senate offices for summer 2020. While in their roles, the interns will have the opportunity to learn about policymaking at the federal level while assisting in the daily operations of the office.
“This Senate intern session is unlike any other, and I’m glad to welcome this team of students to my office staff during this unprecedented time in our history,” said Risch. “This group of interns is well-qualified, and I am confident they will do an excellent job serving Idaho.”
Senator Risch’s Washington, D.C. interns:
Luke Lamey, son of David and Haley, is a native of Boise. He is currently a student at Georgetown University studying international politics and economics. Taking interest in the Senator’s role as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Luke hopes to gain a greater understanding of international relations. Luke is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying activities such as skiing, whitewater kayaking, and mountain biking.
Haley Parker grew up in Rexburg with her parents, John and Michelle, and is now studying political science at Utah State University. Haley is excited to learn about the role Congress plays in foreign relations and national security. In her free time, Haley enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling to new places.
Senator Risch’s Boise intern:
Ryan Palmer is the son of Jim and Shannon and hails from Meridian. He is currently majoring in international studies and political science at the University of Idaho. Go Vandals! Ryan is interested in international affairs, specifically in relation to Europe and East Asia. Ryan is a life-long hockey fan and enjoys spending time with his friends in downtown Boise.
Senator Risch’s Idaho Falls intern:
Graham Clawson, son of Megan and Matthew, is originally from Raleigh, NC and is currently pursuing a degree in political science at BYU - Idaho. Graham is excited to learn how senators interact with and serve their constituents. Graham’s hobbies include carpentry, reading, and snowboarding Idaho’s many mountains.
The Congressional intern program is for college students who are interested in learning more about the legislative process and how Congress operates. Selection is made through an application process that includes submitting a resume, college transcript, and references.
