WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary today advanced the nomination of Judge Amanda K. Brailsford to serve as U.S. District Court Judge in Idaho. The Committee supported her nomination by voice vote.  Her nomination now goes before the full Senate for consideration, the final step in the confirmation process. Idaho’s U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo issued the following joint statement on the Committee’s approval:

“We thank the Judiciary Committee for its actions to demonstrate what we already know--Judge Brailsford is an excellent candidate to serve on the U.S. District Court in Idaho. She is a sound and principled jurist whose history demonstrates she will adjudicate cases according to the law and U.S. Constitution. Judge Brailsford is one of the most qualified nominees for the federal bench in Idaho, and she has earned widespread respect and admiration among her legal peers. We urge our colleagues in the full Senate to move expeditiously to confirm her nomination.”

If confirmed, Judge Brailsford would be the first woman to serve in the role of U.S. District Judge in Idaho.  She is an Idaho native and has served on the Idaho Court of Appeals since 2019. Judge Brailsford was nominated in January by President Biden to fill the open U.S. District Court Judgeship in Idaho.
