Letter to the Editor/ Moscow-Pullman Daily News
I recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., to talk with our congressional delegation about the importance of the Land and Water Conservation Fund to sportsmen in Idaho. I am writing because U.S. Sens.
Mike Crapo and Jim Risch deserve a thank you for stepping up on behalf of this important source of funding for conservation.
Right here in Idaho, LWCF has protected many of our most prized landscapes such as the Sawtooth Valley, South Fork of the Snake River, Boise foothills, City of Rocks, Henry's Lake and Hells Canyon. As an avid outdoorsman, I appreciate that LWCF is used in cooperation with willing landowners and communities to protect special places and enhance hunting and recreation opportunities.
LWCF funds don't come from taxpayers. They come from fees paid by oil and gas companies for drilling offshore. These dollars leverage investment from local communities, Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation
and the private sector.
By supporting LWCF, Crapo and Risch are helping to ensure the future of the places that make our state so special. I am writing to thank them for their support for collaborative, on the ground conservation efforts in Idaho and across the country.
