California Attorney General Xavier Becerra – the Administration’s pick to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) – is out-of-step with Idahoans:
1. He favors eliminating private health insurance and imposing government-run Medicare-for-All;
2. He seeks to decriminalize illegal immigration and make taxpayer-funded Medicaid available to those who cross the U.S. border illegally;
3. He has extreme views on abortion and supports abortion up until the moment of birth.
Mr. Becerra is the wrong choice to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
Last month, I signed my name along with 74 of my House and Senate colleagues urging President Biden to withdraw Mr. Becerra’s nomination to serve as HHS Secretary given his lack of healthcare experience and extreme positions on immigration, abortion, and religious liberty.
Unfortunately, the Administration did not heed our call and Mr. Becerra will receive a full Senate confirmation vote later this week, during which he is expected to be confirmed.
Americans deserve a Health Secretary with healthcare experience – particularly during a global pandemic.
Americans deserve a Health Secretary who will protect their private health insurance.
Americans deserve a Health Secretary who doesn’t attack, sue, and prosecute pro-life advocates.
Once Mr. Becerra is confirmed, I will defend Idahoans’ right to keep their private health insurance. I strongly oppose Democrats’ calls to open our borders. And I remain deeply committed to protecting the unborn and fighting for every child’s right to life.
Serving as Idaho’s Senator is an honor and a privilege, and I will continue standing up for Idaho values.
