Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Risch today welcomed Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz for National Lab Science Day on Capitol Hill. Risch was joined by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) in making remarks following a tour of the lab science exhibits hosted by a number of national labs.

“National Lab Day is a function of the National Lab Caucus that was formed by Senator Durbin and myself, and there were many reasons why we formed the lab caucus, not the least of which is the important work the labs do that affects not only our country but the world,” said Risch.  “The national labs improve our lives, our economics, and our security – and I am thankful to Secretary Moniz for doing the job of running the national labs and being a great friend of the Idaho National Lab and Idaho.”

The Senate National Laboratory Caucus, founded by Sens. Risch and Durbin in 2014, aims to increase awareness of the reach of the national labs as leaders in developing breakthrough technologies and discoveries to address some of our nation’s most pressing challenges.

Risch was joined at National Lab Day by Idaho National Lab Director Dr. Mark Peters. Additional photos from the event can be found on Senator Risch’s Flickr page
