Washington, DC- U.S. Senator Jim Risch released the following statement on the Boxer-Kerry bill introduced today, which mandates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020:

"This proposal should be labeled ‘cap and tax.' It is nothing more than a tax disguised as an experiment to halt global warming. If you turn on a light, drive a car or buy groceries, you will pay more if this passes. When this legislation comes before the Foreign Relations Committee, where I serve, I will be asking hard questions about the impact it will have on Idahoans."

Besides the Environment and Public Works committee, chaired by Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., the bill will also come before the Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and several other Senate committees.
