WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), senior member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, announced the selection of Dave’s Bike Shop in Idaho Falls as the Idaho Small Business of the Month for April 2021. Dave’s Bike Shop will be recognized for its contribution to the Idaho Falls community in the Congressional Record of the U.S. Senate.
Prior to opening Dave’s Bike Shop, owners Dave and Emily Wilding were avid cyclists who saw a need for a bike shop in their local community. After years of saving, the couple found a small space in historic downtown Idaho Falls and opened their doors in September of 2011. Word of the store’s opening spread through the Idaho Falls community, and they began to see a steady flow of customers looking for a full-service bike shop. In just a few years, Dave and Emily were able to move into a larger store in downtown Idaho Falls and expand their inventory and services.
Like other small businesses in Idaho, Dave’s Bike Shop had to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic. When global shutdowns caused factories to close and limited their access to the supply chain, Dave’s quickly changed its procurement strategy, placing large orders and sourcing new products from local manufacturers. Despite these obstacles, the shop has remained successful and continues to serve cyclists of all ages in the Idaho Falls community.
“Since its founding, Dave’s Bike Shop has met the needs of Eastern Idaho’s cyclists, even during a pandemic,” Risch said. “Their resourcefulness is commendable and reflects Idaho’s can-do spirit.”
