Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and his wife, Vicki, maintained their long-held tradition of bringing home the gold during the March of Dimes’ 37th Annual Gourmet Gala this week. At the charity event in which 46 members of Congress competed for the best culinary creation, Sen. Risch and Vicki won the award of “Best Presentation” with their Idaho potato sundae. In the past, the duo has also been recognized for regional favorites like their Idaho potato lollipops and “steak seviche.”
“The March of Dimes Gourmet Gala is a special event that Vicki and I look forward to participating in each year. This year, we brought a longtime Idaho favorite to Washington: the Idaho Baked Potato Sundae Surprise, popularized by the West Side Drive-in in Boise,” Sen. Risch said. “We were thrilled to represent Idaho and support an organization that does incredibly important work on behalf of moms and babies across the country.”
The March of Dimes is the leading national nonprofit organization supporting maternal and pediatric health. The Gourmet Gala, which is one of the longest running fundraisers of its kind, raised more than $1.3 million to support education and advocacy efforts on behalf of moms and babies.
