Washington, DC – The Idaho Congressional Delegation will host two Service Academy Days in north Idaho this month. The events will be held in Coeur d’Alene and Lewiston and will provide parents and students the opportunity to learn more about the application process, academy life and the benefits of attending a service academy.
The purpose of these events is to connect students and parents with academy liaisons, cadets, midshipmen, recruiters and congressional staff to help answer any questions about the congressional nomination process for the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. While a congressional nomination is not needed to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, representatives have been invited to share information about this school as well.
“It is an honor every year to nominate Idaho students to our military academies,” said Crapo. “These academies offer both academic and military training second to none, and I encourage Idaho students and parents to attend Academy Day events and learn more about our military academies.”
“Each year I am truly impressed with the young men and women who apply to our service academies,” said Risch. “We have some remarkable students in Idaho who are leaders and excel academically and I encourage all interested students to attend Academy Day events to learn more about their options.”
“It is an honor to nominate Idaho’s best and brightest students to our Nation’s service academies,” said Congressman Mike Simpson. “Academy graduates receive a first-rate undergraduate education, have many options to pursue advanced degrees and are guaranteed a job. The full four-year scholarship is valued at more than $350,000 which includes tuition, room and board, medical and dental care and a monthly salary. I hope many Idaho students will be attending Academy Day to learn more.”
“Thousands of Idaho students have the talent and drive to succeed in our service academies, but too few of them seek nomination,” said Rep. Raúl Labrador. “I encourage high achievers to attend Academy Day and learn about the amazing opportunities available to those who serve.”
Registration for both sessions will begin at 6:00 PM with the program running from approximately 6:30—8:00 PM. Those interested in attending either session are asked to please RSVP to Karen Roetter via email at karen_roetter@crapo.senate.gov, or by phone at 208-664-5490.
