Washington, D.C. – U.S Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) today voted in support of  the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. The legislation would require medical care be provided for survivors of failed abortions, equal to the medical care provided for any infant born at the same gestational age. The bill failed to advance after Senate Democrats blocked it. Risch made the following statement:

“A child that is born alive should be protected and cared for, regardless of its stage of development or the parents’ original intention. Allowing a human to suffer and die on a medical table without intervention is not who we are as Americans. It’s unconscionable that this bill failed the Senate today, but my resolve to protect the unborn is only strengthened. I will keep fighting for a child’s right to life.”
